You cross paths with that guy. Whether in person or online, it was attraction at first sight. You talk until the break of dawn, the texts are just as amazing and things never seem be taken out of context. This guy is a total dream!
As the days go by, your anticipation meets reality and you excitedly doll yourself up for your first date with your dream guy! If he is perfect over the phone, what more could you ask for in person, right?
You anxiously head over to your rendezvous and within a millisecond, you see that he does NOT currently look like he did in those pictures he sent you. Even though you feel deceived and disappointed, you're too nice to get up and leave, so you stay and think, "Well, at least I'm getting free drinks and free food!"
Most of us have been there. The date is so bad that we need to justify why we're still on it and the most positive thing you can think of the free food you're about to grub on.
You may not be happy, but your tummy will be.
So what can we gain from these bad dates other than free food and tequila shots, ladies? Is it wise for us to give the handshake or pat on the back and part ways, or do we stay and accept it as it is, maybe letting them buy you more drinks until they start to look tolerably attractive?
It really all depends on what you want out of the situation.
Here are some responses we received from some of our fellow Tinder Lotuses in response to dealing with bad dates:
"Bad dates are better than being bored and staying home."
"Money has been pretty tight and I could use some leftovers to take to work for lunch tomorrow."
"I may not be attracted to the guy, but he may be really nice, so his personality can compensate for his bad looks."
"I'll learn how to ask better questions next time around with another guy."
Bottom line is: if you think that free food is the only positive on a bad date, chances are there may be some other perks too that you haven't considered. You have the complete right to walk out or view it as an adventure and a crazy story to tell your girlfriends when you get home.
